Day in the Sukhothai Ruins

Sa Wat Dee Ca from beautiful Thailand!

Our group plus twenty AFAPS pre-cadets spent this past Saturday exploring the ruins and city of Sukhothai. We had to begin early Saturday morning because we had over a seven hour drive ahead of us. The drive seemed to take most of the day but along the way we got to make a couple stops that allowed us to get out, stretch, and grab some snacks. About half way through we made a stop for lunch and got to enjoy an authentic Thai restaurant. The restaurant even incorporated the traditions of taking off your shoes at the door and sitting on the floor at a low table. For some it might be a little out of their element but for our group it was perfect! Everyone ordered their own meals ranging from Phat Thai to Khanom Chin Namya (Thai rice noodles served with a fish based sauce called nam ya) then each table shared one or two appetizers and some custard for dessert
After lunch we hoped back on the bus and before we knew it we were arriving at the ancient ruins of the Sukhothai Historical Park. To see the ruins in full we all loaded up on trolley and got a full guided tour. The pre-cadets were so helpful in translating what the guide was saying and then even more helpful when they began to share their own personal knowledge of Sukhothai and the Buddhist religion. After the tour we headed it a restaurant that was on a river bank and enjoyed yet again another delicious authentic Thai meal. It was an all around a wonderful day spent with friendly people, good food, and beautiful scenery.
If you ever get the chance to visit Thailand I recommend the ancient ruins of Sukhothai and the surrounding area.
