I continue to be impressed with the ability of our Cadets to teach the Thailand Cadets. Over the past 2 days, our Cadets taught the history, traditions, and reasoning for the 4th of July in our country. The classes begin with a Power Point briefing, but quickly turned into quality dialogue between our Cadets and the Thailand Cadets on exactly what is the 4th of July. This opportunity for all to share traditions is what the CULP experience is all about.
Near the end of the day our group split into half with 1/2 the group going to Thailand Language Class and Social Science Department. The Social Science Department started with a briefing from the Department Chief explaining the details of the lessons and importance of the department. After the briefing, the Musical Director played a traditional Thailand Song to us and proceeded to teach how to play the song. He presented us with an instrument (like a recorder) and we made efforts to play basic notes. After a few minutes, most the Cadets could play notes and some were able to play the start of "Mary Had a Little Lamb". On the other hand, I was barely able to make a sound. I guess musical talent is not one of my specialties...:) We ate traditional Thailand Desserts and Juice; all good, but the "green ones are interesting...:) After some good snacks and dialogue, the Thailand Cadets and Department Director showed us some static displays of teaching models and taught us about Thailand History. It was a good means to teach the Cadets history and move into military techniques. Something else interesting was the display of old coins; they had coins that were 600 years old.
It's now 4th of July and we are about to grill out and cook traditional American and Thailand Foods. Today we will sing traditional American Songs, grill burgers, hot dogs, potato ships, baked beans, corn, and the girl's made deviled (4th of July) eggs. You can expect pictures posted from both events in later postings.
I hope that each of you have enjoyed the daily blog and look forward to your comments.
Pass our blog site to your friends and family. It's great to share this experience with all of you.
